
DR. NKOSANA MOYO
Founder of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS), and an Eisenhower Fellow and a World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Leader of Tomorrow alumnus
Dr. Nkosana Moyo holds a PhD in Physics from Imperial College, University of London, and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management, UK. He was until August 2011, the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the African Development Bank (AfDB). Before joining the AfDB, Dr. Moyo worked at Actis Capital LLP as Managing Partner for the Africa Business (http://www.act.is), and also served at the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) as an Associate Director. In his native country Zimbabwe, he served as Minister of Industry and International Trade, and was a candidate in the 2018 Presidential elections. Dr. Moyo is the Founder of the Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS), and an Eisenhower Fellow and a World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Leader of Tomorrow alumnus. In his long association with the WEF, Nkosana has served as a Co-Chair of the Regional Agenda Council (RAC) on the Future of Africa, Chair of the Global Agenda Council (GAC) on Population Growth, and a member of the GAC on Population Dividend and Deputy Chair of the Meta- Council on Inclusive Growth (www.weforum.org). Dr. Moyo has served on many Boards, for both commercial and not for profit organisations. After retiring from the AfDB, he has served as a Non-Executive Director (NED) on the following Boards: Old Mutual PLC, Impala Platinum, Nisela Capital and the Africa Leadership Institute (www.alinstitute.org). Before joining the AfDB, he was either on, or had previously served on the following boards: Chair of Banque Commercial Du Rwanda, Chair of DFCU Bank in Uganda, Diamond Bank in Nigeria, UAC in Nigeria, South African Airways and Kumba Iron Ore both in South Africa; Triangle Sugar and Border Timbers both in Zimbabwe; and he was a Founding Trustee of the Investment Climate Facility (ICF) for Africa (www.icfafrica.org). In the tertiary education sector, Dr. Moyo has served as an Advisory Board Member of the London Business School (www.london.edu) as well as the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (www.soas.ac.uk). He is a patron of The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Business Foundation.
